Collaborative Housing - Placement Success Story

The SUP2 Rental Assistance made the Difference

By: Bella Kontorovsky

As soon as I answered the call, I could tell that this unhoused woman was eager to get into a stable housing situation. She was sleeping on the couch of a house where she lived with some people who did not have the best influence on her. To make matters worse, the house did not have running water. She was a mature woman who was diligently working a job but still could not accumulate enough rent money to move out on her own. It was unimaginable what it must be like to work long hours and be unable to shower in her own home.

Her delightful personality made it easy to connect her with one of our homeowners. And as I suspected, the conversation went seamlessly, and the homeowner was willing to move forward right away. The only missing piece was that she was short on some rent money to move in due to higher expenses from experiencing homelessness.

Fortunately, SHARE! was able to make up the difference through our SUP2 rental assistance program. Moving into a SHARE! Collaborative Housing changed this woman's life. She can now go home and sleep comfortably in a bed surrounded by people that allow her to feel at home and reward herself after a long day of work with a hot shower.
